Also known as Our Lady of Purification Church, Thankey is one of the most renowned Marian pilgrimage centres of the Diocese of Cochin. The shrine is famous for its miraculous statue depicting the Passion of Our Lord — the figure of Jesus crowned with thorns, with blood drying on his brow and wounds in his palms, feet and side.
The pilgrimage season begins on Palm Sunday and reaches its peak on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, when thousands gather to pray before the statue and renew their faith in the saving Passion of Christ.
