Founded in 1119 and rebuilt by the Portuguese in 1504, St. Lawrence Church at Edakochi is one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Cochin. Its Portuguese-influenced architecture, stained-glass windows and parish museum testify to centuries of faith on the Malabar coast.
The church is the centre of a major pilgrimage to the tomb of Monsignor Lawrence Puliyanath — Servant of God, known as the apostle of the poor. Thousands of pilgrims visit each year seeking his intercession.
