On the Arabian Sea coast of Chellanam — within St. Sebastian Parish of the Diocese of Cochin — stands the Velankanni Matha Shrine, a beloved Marian pilgrimage centre dedicated to Our Lady of Good Health (Velankanni Matha). Pilgrims from across the diocese and beyond travel to the shrine seeking the intercession of the Holy Mother for healing, comfort and grace.
The shrine and its companion chapel Santhi Theeram (“Shore of Peace”) were blessed on 20 December 2014 by the Bishop of Cochin. Today the shrine is a flourishing centre of devotion, novenas and annual celebrations in honour of Our Lady of Good Health.
